One Family. One Philosophy. One Passion.
Domäne Roland Chan: On the steep stone terraces above the Danube, we farm Riesling and Grüner Veltliner by hand. Our yields are deliberately low—below 4,000 kg per hectare—so that the ancient single vineyard terraces can convey their unique terroir. Wines are released with time, not haste. Two years after harvest, they leave our cellar poised, clear and saline—quietly carrying the Wachau’s stone and light.
Among the leading estates of the Wachau—one of the world’s great regions for dry white wine.

Domäne Roland Chan is a boutique domaine in the Wachau, based in Wösendorf and Sankt Michael, founded 2017. We steward steep dry-stone terraces in the historic crus Achleiten, Klaus, Bach and Höll, harvest by hand in successive passes, raise the wines patiently on fine lees and release them two years after harvest. Our focus is on single-vineyard wines that transmit their slope and stone with clarity—saline, finely phenolic whites of poise, length and quiet authority.
Recognition includes yearly James Suckling’s Top-100 Wines of Austria, alongside consistently high notes in Falstaff, Vinaria, James Suckling and Vinous. We remain deliberately small so that each bottle—numbered, small-production lots—speaks precisely of place.
Since 2019 member of the Vinea Wachau. Since 2024 certified Sustainable Austria.

"Expressing the purest flavours from the dry wall terraces of the world heritage region Wachau."
Ried Achleiten (Weißenkirchen)
Our holding lies at the westernmost, highest edge of Achleiten, where the Achleitenweg ends at the viewpoint above the terraces and a gentle breeze keeps the vines prestine. Thin, stony topsoils over gneiss and mica-schist and amphibolites, constant air movement, and long evening light give chiselled, smoke-tinged Riesling with a saline, tapering finish.
Ried Achleiten – Subriede Himmelreich
Our Himmelreich parcel sits west-facing on the Kügerlwand, beneath the Weißenkirchen cross. The exposure and steepness here tighten the wine’s line: tense, vertical Riesling and Grüner Veltliner with fine phenolics and a cool, stony core. Upper-slope terraces throughout.
Ried Klaus (Weißenkirchen)
High bands of Klaus hold heat in the stone yet keep a breeze; from these upper terraces our Riesling is deep and resonant without weight. Zweigelt for the estate dry Rosé grows in the shaded west rows for slow ripening.
Ried Bach (Wösendorf)
Bach is our steepest Riesling vineyard—narrow walls, fast-draining soils and marked night-time cool. Riesling here is crystalline and precise. Our Grüner Veltliner comes from 60-year-plus vines we rescued and preserved; it shows pepper, citrus, quiet structure and abounds with minerality.
Ried Höll (Wösendorf)
We steward the entire south-facing side of Höll: an arc of sun with wind exposure in the upper reaches. Riesling in the airy upper rows. Grüner Veltliner Smaragd marries power and poise; 70+ year Weissburgunder goes to the core of the mountain. Selected parcels supply Zweigelt for “To Hell and Back” (blanc-de-noir).
A young domaine with old stones. We cultivate historic terraces in Weißenkirchen (Ried Achleiten, Ried Klaus) and Wösendorf (Ried Bach, Ried Höll). Everything is done by hand: vineyard work, selective picking in multiple passes, and no botrytis unless intended. Fermentations are gentle and cool; ageing is long on fine lees; bottlings are unfiltered. We keep the wines until they have found their calm—typically two years after harvest.
Riesling displays true single vineyard terroir; Grüner Veltliner adds breadth, spice, and quiet power. A small old wine Weißburgunder parcel lends Burgundian gravitas with Wachau nerve; Single Vineyard sites are bottled as Smaragd®; Federspiel® shows crystalline ease; our Rosé Zweigelt counts amongst the finest Rosé, and our To Hell and Back is gastronomic and aromatic.
Precision starts in the terraces. We work with low yields below 4,000 kg/ha (≈ 28–30 hl/ha), early-morning harvests only, and 12–14+ focused harvest days for our 2.5ha estate.
